Even if you had an old one that could be used to support the pumpkin while the opposite side was being installed, it would help as a guide tool.
I'd get a starboard side made up to put in, then just take the old one from starboard, and slip it into the port side while you have it in the machine shop.
And of course do not mix up the shims on either side, and put them back exactly as they came out. Use thread sealer on all of the bolt threads for the companion flanges. Replace the o rings and seals, and you should have a great repair.
Pay some attention to the speedometer cable seal as well -- you might want to swap that out since you'll be in that zip code. When I did my IDs, I changed the shift coupling, so good lord, I had to change the gearshaft selector seal as well. The expression...."oh, while I'm in there"....comes to mind.
So, don't you want to do all the motor mounts, and the reverse gear dogleg, install new A arm bushings, shocks, tie rods, ball joints and.....oh shit, might as well do the steering rack too....did I forget wheel bearings, calipers, rotors, brake lines, and......
