The diagnostic socket is the round 6-pin socket at the lower left of the fuse box as you are facing it from the fender--cover off. If you jumper the pins at 12:00 and 6:00 you will get power to the car (including fuel pump). If you leave them connected, and then jumper from the pin at 6:00 to the pin at 2:00 you will engage the starter. THE CAR WILL START so be sure that it is in neutral and that the parking brake is engaged if you are doing this by yourself. I have one car that occasionally won't start with the ignition. I have never been able to figure out the reason, because it is just an occasional occurrence. I ran a push button starter into the cabin connected to pins at 6:00 and 2:00 just for emergencies. This technique won't override the shifter lock feature, you still need the key in the ignition to be able to move the shifter. That is the same for autos and 5-speeds.
