First 9K. Avoided them like the plague for years. Always had the funds and time for C900's, but life has put me where I'm happy to even have a Saab again. I'll try to set my prejudices aside, and will continue to read this board on what to look for/expect.
I'm one of those guys that 'saves' cars no one else would bother with. Naive maybe, cheap definitely, jack of many makes & master of none. I think I've owned at least one every make made today except MB, and Honda. Also owned a bazillion 'orphans', Ramblers especially. Sold my last 8V, 4 door, C900 with 430K on it and miss it sorely. So, enter a 'new' Saab.
This car is pretty basic, 16V, 5 speed, 270K. It starts, all the doors close, and the glass is good. Not much else to say beyond that. Here's my known 'issues':
1. Garden variety manual. Which is best? Haynes, Chilton? I'll get a Bentleys eventually, I hope.
2. Weak clutch pressure. Pedal almost on the floor, couple pumps and it will go into gear. Clutch Master? How hard to change it?
3. Headliner. Does it come out the same as a C900?
4. Missing interior rear door panels. Are they same across all years or not?
5. What the heck have I gotten myself into?!
Used to visit here very frequently in chat under the name Nukeday.
Hope to hear your suggestions. I have to say, as clapped out as this car is, it's not rusty or badly banged up, and that thick Saab steering wheel sure felt good. PO is working with me to pay for it in a couple of installments, and I need to set aside some coin for anticipated repairs. Should have it home by mid-November. Hope I'm ready :)
