I just pried one off my '96 CS to confirm my memory, and it's in my hand as I type:
There are three small white plastic pegs, one about 2" in from each end and one in the middle, 2 1/2" from the end ones, and they stick down into nylon or rubber-grommeted holes in the bodywork. About 1/2" long, ribbed with rings. Need to be gently pried up, vertical, working along the strip so as not to deform it and not break the pegs.
You probly could glue one in, with silicone, if the pegs were broken off.
But if you're getting another from a junk car, do it gently and save the pegs. If your car has pegs broken off in the grommets, poke them down into the interior of your car before attaching the new trim strip.
The metal piece is extruded aluminum, not easy to get paint to stick to, so if you are thinking about repainting one, at most rough up the present paint, don't sand it bare, during prep.
