the track isn't the problem... Posted by Dan [Email] (#2459) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Dan) on Mon, 10 Jan 2005 18:42:54 In Reply to: Re: Regretable heresy, Bill Grable, Sun, 9 Jan 2005 14:30:26 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Even with the fairly well talked about rotary + subaru 5 the axles had to be modified. Cutting and welding axles is not the most difficult thing you'd have to do to insert a non-original engine. The trouble will be in finding something that will mate to a transmission that can line up with the axle holes. From there, you will have to cut and size axle shafts anyway because the inner half will not be the one from the stroker and the outer half will have to be. That being said, does your 93F have the rubber donut axles? will those even hold up to the extra power of a rotary engine? I honestly don't know...I'm just curious on this one.
You may need to reexamine the whole front end. With that mind, you may just replace everything between the outer fenders and build what you need in its place. A body shop here in South Carolina has a Saab driving owner who is about to put a transversly situated park avenue V8 + auto transmission into a pristine '93 900S. He wants more power from his engine but doesn't trust the saab auto tranny.. (rightfully so iMO.) I guess it's just the rarety of the 93F that makes it strange as a donner shell for a frankensaab project. I'm not against it as I understand the quirky nature of the 2 stroke whatever...I've just always wanted a two stroke saab and with your project, there will be one less in the world.
Good luck. Let us know what you find.
