MagnusSE,

First, I want to thank everyone for this discouse. A frank and honest discussion of the facts and circumstances was my intent at the beginning, and I am not disappointed.

Regarding the number of 93F built: Please help me with this incongruity. Although there are many sites on the internet saying that there were only 600 built, there were over 11,000 1960 Saabs produced. Were the other 10,500 1960 Saabs built with the suicide doors?

Historical perspective: One man's ceiling is another man's floor. It is conceivable that there are Saab aficionados out there who would disagree with your assertion, "using the 850cc engine instead of the 750cc is "acceptable", from a historic point of view - since it was a common modification already in the 60s". Are you saying that past heresy is forgivable, future heresy is not?

Stylistic notions: I guess I am in the minority of Saab enthusiasts because I think the 93F is the most beautiful of all the 93's with its modern door alignment.

Spitting: Your point is well taken, but I am stuck between a rock and a hard place on this issue. I spit salivary juices in the face of the purists if I upgrade the technology; I spit oil in the face of my fellow travelers if I put a 2 stroke in the engine compartment. Last summer I went to the Northwest (US)convention and watched the judges rate the vehicles according to their authenticity. I admire their passion, and I respect those who want to perserve a moment in technology. However, I am not embarking on creating a museum piece here, not should I be required to.

Still, your words don't fall on deaf ears. I have the original 3 speed transmission and would like to bolt an engine to it. I am now thinking that I need to enlarge the scope of my engine search to include present day micro cars that are not imported into the US. Are there any Euopean or Asian car engines that would fit the bill? That way, there would be no "choppin". You haven't completely lost me yet.
