I;ve been driving since about 1965 long before anyone in this country ever heard of front wheel drive. Probably the first ten cars I drove were rear wheel drive and I remember what they were like. Granted, today's cars are much better but there are two major problems with rear wheel drive that will never change. The first is space and the second is weight. A three series BMW doesn't have the room of the 9-3; same with the 5 series and the 9-5. Usually the drivetrain of a rear wheel drive car adds an extra 150 to 300 lbs which means poorer mpg. That is why I say if you are going to make a rwd car make it a two seater, where space doesn't matter and make it a rear engine where the drive train would weigh no more than fwd.
