That is very interesting! but of course, we could give a tinkers damn about complying w/ our US governments DOT regulations personally ! they are the nattering nabobs of negativism numbnuts that kept good quartz head and driving, fog lights from us for eons insisting on sealed beams! How many victims of this epitome of stupidity died as they were overdriving their lights? RIP We're old enough to recall how dim -like candles our lights were! (still ? ) are ! ( My friends and I always imported the European H-4 spec headlights fr a foreign junkyard !) lately. I have sourced a set of UK spec Saab OG 9-3 headlights! They adjust electrically, (up and down w/ a dash switch ! ) the infernally idiotic imbecile dullards at DOT don't let us have them on US models! (ours adjust ONLY manually ) (yes I will probably change the glass on the driver's side as the beam cut off may be too high but we'll check! Experiment ! the ideal may be the UK glass on the driver's side and the USA on the passenger side for our USA LHD cars. maybe we could set up a swap w/ our UK Saab saabistas'? I have several other light projects that go from mild to wild EG: led aircraft landing light in the side mirrors as driving lamps ( w/ movable/removable covers so they look stock ) Bright high rate flashing strobes as turn signal bulbs! , Finally, twin 500-watt halogen work; light bulbs in each headlight (so 2,000 watts total ) running on 120 -220 volts A/C w/ a voltage inverter from 12 V DC,(better have a GCFI eh ? ) maybe will be too hot? blister the hood, bumper paint ? LOL would prefer mega bright LED (like 10X std lights) but those are mega money! now don't worry friends we have wide open spaces here, deserted desert roads. we can use daylight here at night! Hmmm. how about arc lights? a modern" Nernst lamp"?Developed by the German physicist and chemist Walther Nernst in 1897. Google it ! invented by a real physicist in Germany, it beat the Edison lamp bulb by miles and a modern version mayhaps would do well against modern lamps! *Lumens per watt: 6-9 so a 100 watt would have 900 lumens! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nernst_lamp
