I agree with you on the price aspect - apple are pricey... but it depends what you are using the computer for too, if you say "but decent Apple isn't that much better than a fully loaded Dell." - I disagree totally there!
I work as a graphic designer and have 3 machines set up that i daily work on - a G4 Mac running 10.2.6 (for all the design work, photoshop stuff, quark and illustrator work - plus the internet/intranet design i do too), next to it is a DELL 2gighz windoze model with same apps as mac.
The DELL is an awful machine to do design work on, ive had all sort of postscript print problems, apps crashing out of the blue and all round absurd illogicalness that makes windoze what it is. I have a list of all the problems i have encountered thus far when trying to design on a DELL and that list is over 4 pages in 6 months! If i take the same file and open/print or whatever on teh mac - no worries - it works!
next to that PoC DELL i have another Mac - a powerbook titanium 15inch (1gig HZ 768MB RAM etc.) which acts as a backup for any surplus design work and houses my 30gig of tunes (over 6,000!) to listen to while i work. :)
I know what i will continue to buy and stay loyal too.
The G5 just proves that APPLE has the better product and I dont mind paying that bit extra for a far superior operating system to help me acheive my design best.
just some of my views as a professional graphic designer! :)
