Ever use a fuel injector cleaner like Techron? Better not because the owner's manual says fuel additives aren't necessary! Until of course you go into the dealership with about 50k miles and they tell you you need a $150 fuel system flush :)
As for your pickup manufacturer, you're right he does have to guarantee it. For 36k miles! I'm much more concerned with having a car that's still running strong at 150k or 250k.
I'm not a proponent of 3k changes all the time. Hence my recommendation to this guy that he change at 5k. IF he had one of the 7qt 9-32s I'd suggest 7.5k. But 15k is simply too long. Look at oil analysis info, you're well into the iffy range or beyond at 15k.
Hey but if you want to save $50 or so in oil every 15k miles on your $30,000 car, be my guest. This is AMERICA! ;)
