I am a former VW and current Saab owner.
IMHO VWs are great cars; solid, well engineered, reliable, practical, good value. SAABs are all those things and also, in general, more fun to drive, better for accident avoidance, and quite likely more crashworthy. (I say "in general" because there a few VWs that are fun to drive, e.g. Golf GTI and Audi S4.)
