You make a good point but the analogy is a little thin. The Panamera is build from scratch, looks and I suspect, drives and feels like a Porsche (mainly because it actually is). The Ceyenne, while based on the VW Toureg, is a whole different animal--I doubt they share many parts. In both cases they put a ton of effort into making both cars "real" Porches and I think, did a reasonably good job. Badge engineering has been a way of life at GM for 40 years ("let's gussy up a Cavaleer and sell it as a Cadillac"), but to me it simply says "we didn't really want to make an effort here so we'll see if we can fool you instead." I don't object to the notion of a Saab sport ute, or sports car, or hell, even a Saab pickup truck as long as it was designed and built by Saab, ie it has some Saab DNA. Just slapping a Saab badge on a totally different brand of car is lazy, disingenuine, and doesn't cut it for me. I don't care if they do it to a Ferrari, while it might be a very nice car, it wouldn't be a Saab.
