I'm sick and tired of being afraid to use my jack. I have the one in the link down below; it is not the best jack, obviously but it did the job for many times. I usually use a piece of 2x4 or a hockey puck. While I was doing my rear brakes, I used a hockey puck and a piece of wood, maybe wasn't the best idea (as they can slip off each other). Anyhow, I don't like to raise my car TOO high on a jack, so I avoid it. Today, however, in order to be able to torque one of the caliper bolts, I had to take it a bit higher than usual, outside of my comfort zone.

When I finished the job, I slowly let the pressure out and the darn stupid thing with its wheel moves around ever so slightly, which gets me very worries. Finally, what I have been afraid of happened. Boom, and it slipped off. At that point, however some of the weight was already being supported by the rear wheel, though it still was enough of a slip. I looked down, and saw the metal jaw sticking onto the fuel tank (!!!!!!). I let off ALL the pressure, and released the jack. Can you imagine if it punctured it? My goodness. It looks fine, but I will have to take a picture and post it here for you to see. The beam and all, is fine nothing happened there (BTW, I was doing this in my garage, perfectly level floor).

As I said, I'm tired of this, I am planning on doing many more jobs on my car, and I need something serious. What do you have for a jack? Can you relate to my situation...?

Thanks for your advice.

Bender.
