I lifted the center of my house a few years ago using 4 screw jacks and two 6x6" by 16' spanning across 3 of the floor joists to repair a damage that some dimwit created when installing a floor heater many moons earlier.
They cut through the center concrete wall to make room AND center floor joist above to make a hole for the heater unit. Above the subfloor the center wall runs through the house which also serves as the whole support for the pitched roof.
Then to make it better many moons later when the floor heater had died and someone installed a dual wall heater, they cut through the center ceiling joist to make room for the vent pipe. ARRRGGHHH.
So they practically broke the back of the house and it has been slowly sinking in the center since then.
It was a little bit nerve wrecking laying under the house in that tight space slowly cranking up each screw jack turn by turn hearing the house creaking as it went up but it came up easily and we could have gone even higher but decided to just cut in in half of what it needed to be.
After that we took out the damaged pieces and spanned the void with a bigger 6x8" by 20' shimming it along the way to match the sunken concrete wall.
