I remember a similar article not to long back. While it deals with Opel's sales issues in Germany (granted the largest market in Europe) it doesn't talk about Opel's sales in other country's (including as Vauxhalls in the UK) or even those that are re-badged and possibly built elsewhere (such as the current Buick Regal), it's profitability, (and I mean true profitability, not how GM is accounting for it for its financial/tax purposes... and see comment on Buick Regal & how GM might have accounted for the Opel Insignia's development costs), nor its survival as a brand if not a manufacturer.
Could Opel be closed? Sure. Could it survive? Sure. Will GM leave the European market. No. (and I honestly don't know what GM brands are sold where in Europe outside some basics on Opel & Vauxhall).
