requirements in the US, both MB and VW. Yes, they have added some equipment to meet the standards here, i.e. urea tanks, but they do meet the requirements. I don't know why GM doesn't try this - either they can't meet the requirements or are worried about the negative perceptions remaining after the last time they tried selling Diesel cars here, i.e. American V8s not initially designed as Diesels.
The Alfa 159 is already out of production. According to the article about it in Wikipedia, it is based on a Fiat-GM joint development "Premium" platform (sound familiar 9000 owners?), but it proved to be too expensive and heavy, so it was orphaned and has now been replaced. I certainly enjoyed driving it!
