and the Opel Vectra was predecessor to the Insignia. The current Opel/Vauxhall Insignia is the same car as the Buick Regal. It would be quite odd for me to buy a Regal, as my first car was a 1965 Buick Skylark, but the GS model Regal has a lot going for it, and if they produced the five-door hatchback like they have in Europe it would be a strong candidate to replace my SAAB 9000.
I find it puzzling that GM doesn't sell a Diesel version of the Insignia/Regal in the US, as they certainly have them in Europe with several different Diesel engines available ranging from 108 to 192 HP, torque from 190 to 300 ft-lbs. I rented an Alfa Romeo 159 TDI and it was magnificent, cruising smoothly at high speeds and getting outrageously high mileage. VW seems to be the only manufacturer that provides a similar product (their TDI engined cars) and there is a waiting list at my local VW dealer to buy one, no cars available for a test drive (I've driven a friend's car).
