surprise about the 3M

Although durability is a function of your unique location/weather and your wind abrasion factor (esp for the front end), the 3M as I recall was among the top performers in durability of all the waxes at Consumers.
There is a survey here showing who uses what wax. The leader has to be a favourite for some reason, eh?
I use a home-made wax, heavy in carnuba, manufactured along with a polish and a spray rejeuvenator. This small business-guy (a Porsche concours man) also manufactures a wash which is the best I have ever used. Although it's time for the spring polish-wax, I got a full winter out of this wax, two coats on leading surfaces, and it can still be rejeuvenated, fairly soft to the touch, with the spray-wipe application. The whole product line cost me CDN$80 and after a year, I will need a new bottle of wash and a new bottle of spray-shine. I don't know what's in that spray shine but the car (black) looks like a million bucks after an effortless wipe.
