washing an occasionally very dirty/gritty black car

First, I fill a bucket with laundry pre-soak and warm water.
Then, I take a water bottle and dip-'n squirt all surfaces with this mix.
Light-spray hosing or soaking (NEVER BLASTING) the wet car with no nozzle, I have thus taken the worst of the removable grits off before the wash.
Using two buckets, one with rinse water and one with special car soap and water, I use a towell IN STRAIGHT STROKES ONLY as both sponges and mitts are reputed to take up grits into the fibres. The rinse is used to ensure the wet towell has no grits in it.
If the wash water gets dirty, it may be time to replace it but this is rarely neceessary.
Save cleaning the wheel well lips to the time when you do the wheelrims and tires (with a scrub brush). It is amazing how black the tires can be with fewer applications of Black Gold (or whatever) with some good-old fashioned scrub-brush cleaning. Again, too-glossy (Armor-all) tires are, IMO, distasteful. I have heard that Armor-all will brown the tires after awhile. This has not been my experience with Black Gold (Turtle)
My only concern with this process was possible loss of wax using the laundry pre-soak. I have not experienced any such loss.
I have read that a chamois will actually remove wax (source-a vintage Mustang-owners' site once posted here). Hence, I use a couple more towells IN STRAIGHT STROKES ONLY to completely dry the surfaces etc. off. On the 9-3, water stays under the taillights, licence plates and under the mirrors and under the door pillars. A quick blast of compressed air from a PC keyboard cleaner will solve this challenge.
