I rembember a little excursion many years ago with our JEEP on an unplowed (read closed for winter) federal or state forest road. It didn't take long to get a number of miles back from the main road and then we bogged down in the soft spring snow. Getting back to the main road took the entire afternoon. We dug (lucky to have a large scoop shovel, gathered branches for traction and rocked-n-rolled through repeated bog downs back to the main road. We had a winch but were never close enough to attach it to anything strong enough when we needed it.
That was the worst experience except when our 95 sunk (it was deeper than it looked) on the truck trail but that is another story. Most of the other times I have been stuck we were able to get out and going again in an hour or less. Still never much fun.
