Why do so many folks presume...(a bit of a rant)

that they should be above the law? I think a 65 limit on the Mass Pike is silly--and I violate it regularly--but if that is the law then you have to play the game and avoid the ticket. Use a good radar detector, avoid being the lead car, pay attention, etc. When you don't, you have a ticket record like I used to (lost count years ago) and have to deal with it. But FYI, the speed limit is the speed limit: it's not contingent on traffic volume, so the cops write the tickets. Being the only car on the road can work for you, but I've found you can't count on it.
Nowadays, my normal cruising speed remains about 80 to 85 on most interstate-type roads and I'm rarely even stopped. I've done long stretches at over 110, but *never* as the front car and *always* with very light or no traffic. And at over 90 I always slow when coming up on and passing other cars. (some people call the cops on their cell phones when you blast by them going fast)
Next--it's way to easy to say you are an above average driver (a commonly held belief!) and that speed limits shouldn't apply to you because you're just so good and are in a superior car. But even if you're superb, you're still sharing the road with a mixed bag of soccer moms, stressed business people, drunks, old ladies, stoned truckers, teenagers who think they are immortal, distracted drivers, and other people who also think they are superb drivers and have a need to prove it. It's not wise to assume that your ability (no matter how good it is) or your car's handling will get you out of an emergency situation. Sometimes it will, other times it won't
Speed limits--as low as they are these days--are set to keep the majority of people out there (see above) reasonably safe and make money for towns, states, etc. Is tailgating someone at 65 more dangerous than driving alone on a road at 85? Is chasing down drunks a better use of a cop's time? You bet, but it is easier for the cop to write a lone speeder than it is to get into traffic and chase down a tailgater or troll for drunks.
Sorry to rant, but as an inveterate speeder with lengthy record I had to put in my 2 cents.
