I hadn't heard about "Oil Absorbtion" but not much surprises me any more. Neither does VWoA ignoring it. Back in the late 70s and early 80s when I worked at VWoA corporate there was a huge valve seal problem. Some people were using 2 quarts in 1000 miles. "It is normal for a car to use oil," was the corporate mantra for about 2-3 years. I had a Scirocco with the problem and the only reason it got fixed is because I was an employee. Finally they did a recall.
The newer cars are very nice, but NO CAR should use oil like that, and the mfgr should fix it. I'd be very careful buying a VW.
