For t5 cars, the ng900 and 9000, you are either e85 or petro and you can have two ecus so that if you get into a situation where you cannot find e85, you pop out the e85 ecu and pop in the petro ecu and fill up with petro and go on your way.
With t7 cars, the viggen and 95 and the t8 93ss cars, you can run a full flex fuel program that will allow you to run gasoline, e85 or any mix inbetween. The cars use the 02 sensor to tell what mixture of ethonal you have in the fuel cell and you can actually watch it on t7 with the open sid function, it will show you what percentage of ethonal its adapting to and then use either hte e85 timing and fuel maps or petro timing and fuel maps or a combination of the two, depending on the ethonal mixture.
When the 02 sensor shows that the car is running very rich, it triggers the ecu so that it knows its got e85 in the tank and will then adapt to the ethanol percentage and use the appropriate timing and fuel map.
