OK, I'm about to throw out this damn Weber 34ICH!!!!But, I don't
guess my car will run any better with no carb at all....;-)
I went to some Weber carb sites that discuss how to set the base
settings on webers. They say the most common mistake when setting up
and tuning a weber is improper throttle linkage, and linkage NUT
being too tight.
It also kinda sounds like with the idle screw backed all the way OUT,
the linkage stop should close completely against the carb.
IS THIS TRUE???????? MINE DOES NOT. I have to screw in the idle screw
several turns before it starts to push the throttle linkage. I'd say
the linkage stops about 1/8" from the carbs base throttle stop. I've
tried to tap the throttle linkage all the way closed, but nope, it's
still 1/8" out from the base....
The carb throttle also *'STICKS'* at the base throttle setting
before "letting go". It is not my throttle linkage, I've removed it
entirely to test this 'stickyness'. So it must be something internal
to the carb sticking, but what???
I've followed both Ashcrafts 34ICH instructions, and Webers to set
the mixture and idle. When I have it "right" according to the
instructions, the car wants to stall **BAD** when giving it gas. By
massaging the pedal a bit, I can get it to run, barely...
I think I've got all the air leaks fixed, since spraying the carb
base area does not affect idle anymore. Although, the only thing I
did was tighten the throttle linkage nut a bit. Could there have been
an air leak around the throttle nut???
I bought this carb NEW from http://www.webercarburetors.com, so it's not
like this is a worn out weber...It's maybe seen 1000 miles, tops.
I've never had it REALLY working reliably, so I'd love to get this
damn thing tuned right.....
Any thoughts? Suggestions???
