First, I own two Sonetts . I myself really enjoy the car. (No, I am not back pedaling)

I am talking of worth here.. Does that mean a Sonett is worth 25,000 from all of what you mention?

That front wheel drive idea came from the first Saab. The rarity of a car does not necessarily mean it should be worth a ridiculous amount of currency.

Saab did not make the Sonett first; hence it was not their flagship vehicle; hence it was a version of something..not an original product. In my own mind, that alone is a factor.

The idea to market a sports car was too increase sales. Sure, anyone can buy a car for any ridiculous price. I myself place value on the history and originality of the product.

If you are talking of a pure, undiluted Saab sports car, then you can not look at the Sonett 3. It would be better to look at the Saab Sonett two stroke. That is the product that came from the company's efforts. And it is easy to see that the Sonett 2 is built function over form. I myself prefer the lines of the Sonett two stroke over the Sonett 3.

That car handles better..and the engine is made for the chasis. It has an engine made by Saab; despite the two stroke origin traces to the DKW.

The V4 compromises the handling. The same goes for the 96 ( I have a V4 and two stroke. The 2stroke is much more fun to drive.

Some may place more value and their currency on rarity whilst others on creativity and uniqueness. It is like a painting; each her own of course.

I truly like the Saab Sonett 3, yet when I take a look at my strong 96s, 99s, my delicous looking 900 Turbo Spg, and back to the Sonett, something is definitely missing.

I myself think the epitome of a true Saab is the C900. There..one finds everything...strength, true turbo power, handling, safety and luxury. and that admiration for fucntion over form concept. Whoever designed the lines of C900 is a genius.

I can see a classic 900 in the far future selling for 25,000. yet I can not see a Sonett in that class.
