I don't doubt that you love your Sonetts. I wasn't trying to point a finger at you about your comments so don't worry about any "back pedaling" remarks from me. :)
I started out my entire post by agreeing with you that the car isn't worth $25K. Its not....but very few vintage SAABs are able to fetch that kind of money. I was never arguing that the SIII should sell for $25K. I simply believe that the reason they don't has little to nothing to do with its engine, plastic shell or Italian designer. And, I also respectfully disagree that those facts make the SIII any less a SAAB than a c900.
SAAB didn't make the first sedan. Does that mean that no SAAB is truly original? Or, is only the first SAAB a true SAAB because everything that came after is derivative in some way or unoriginal? Must all SAABs be sedans for them to be considered true SAABs in your book?
I also never commented on whether I preferred the III to the II or V4 or any other model. I don't think there is anything wrong with preferring other models to the III. Nevertheless, our personal preferences of one model versus another has nothing to do with the value of the SIII...except that it could be considered representative of the minimal public demand for the car.
Your post simply suggested that because the SIII was made of fiberglass (as opposed to steel), was designed by an Italian and used a Ford sourced engine it wasn't a real SAAB and, therefore, couldn't command a $25K price tag.
I agree with your conclusion. I just disagree with how you got there! lol :) No worries...besides, I think we more or less agree. Oh, and nice SPG! My friend had an '88 when I was in high school. Needless to say, I was very jealous.
