See my posting from 3 February further up the thread...
You can make this phone connector work, but you have to go aftermarket. Ask specific product/wiring questions in the forum at http://users.boardnation.com/~sio_communications/index.php - they are very knowledgeable and prompt at responding. I've been searching online for a couple of weeks now, but haven't been able to find wiring harness adapters in the USA to replace the Saab connector. Because of recent UK legislation restricting phone use in the car, aftermarket products are pretty common there.
You can splice the Saab connector wires into a hands free kit specifically for your phone type, or with a Bluetooth wireless car kit (I've found them from Parrot, Motorola, Siemens) but once the wires are cut, you're stuck with it if it doesn't work as expected. Another thing the Saab deaaler doesn't tell you (they probably don't even know) is that if you want to use the car's speakers for redirecting your calls through, you will need a transformer between the head unit and the car kit's speaker leads so you don't blow the head unit. They are expensive to replace, and would not be covered under warranty in this situation! (See my posting at the Sio Communications forum at http://users.boardnation.com/~sio_communications/index.php?board=44;action=display;threadid=1324)
Per the instruction booklet provided with Saab's hands free phone connector (it's an 18-pin VDA type connector, not ISO like some manufacturers), the pin out is as follows:
1 - ground
4 - mute
7 - line output ground
9 - microphone ground
10 - 12 v. key-controlled voltage (+15)
11 - 12 v. (+30) power supply
12 - microphone low level output
16 - line output signal
18 - micrphone high level output
I hope this all helps. If anyone has information on products available in the States, please share!
