After over three weeks, the dealer has finally returned my car with a hands-free kit installed. They essentially took the Nokia standard car kit stuff (cradle, control unit) and wired it into SOME of the wiring in the car. The microphone is wired. The mute on the stereo is wired. The speakers are wired. They say the antenna is wired, although I can't detect any better signal strength. The power is wired to the phone so it charges when in the cradle. The remaining components (phone keypad, phone button on steering wheel and infotainment) are not wired.
It works well enough. Incoming calls mute the stereo. When you touch the phone keypad, it mutes the stereo. Because I love the car so much, I told them it would be satisfactory. The total cost of installation to me was approximately $470. About $270 was for parts. The dealer said it cost them $6,000 to do the installation.
My dealer said that SAAB will probably pull the remaining controls (phone button, keypad, etc...) from the new models since SAAB feels they will never be able to get this right, and it will only continue to lead to customer satisfaction issues. My Dealer is Lehman SAAB in Harrisburg, PA, USA (http://www.lehmansaab.com/).
