Changing the oil is no problem. You can do it yourself, have the dealer do it, or buy the parts at the dealer and have any local garage change it – it's not very complicated, and the instructions are in the owner's manual. It IS important to use the right oil and filters, though. Your owner's manual has the details.

There's plenty of proof out there that the oil change system works just like SAAB says it does. You can run the oil for as long as the oil meter recommends, and change it when the oil meter says with no ill effect. If the oil meter says 52% after 4,600 miles it's probably right, but 52% is only half way used up.

Some people have a near-religious belief that all oil in all cars needs to be changed every 3000 miles, and if that makes you happy, then by all means do. But I recommend changing the oil properly (you'll know it's right), resetting the indicator, then driving until it tells you to change it. Then relax and enjoy your 21st century SAAB!
