I assume your Aero is a 6 cyl. I owned an 05 Aero, purchased new. The dealer suggested oil changers every 15K so I had it done every 7,500 to be safe. Anyway, at 18000 miles, three thousand after my last oil change, I noticed the car was a quart and a half low. Also, the color was a dark brown. Dark brown isn't good for synthetic oil with 3 thousand miles on it. My first thought was that the dealer didn't change the oil but just charged me for the service. Even if that happened, there would only have been 11,500 miles on the oil assuming they actually did the service at 7,500 miles. I put more oil in the car and checked it a week later. It is important to say that there were no leaks and the car did not smoke. It took me ten days to get an appointment at the dealer. When I checked the oil, there were gelatin globs of oil on the dip stick, sludge. After multiple conversations with Saab service regarding what to do, drain the oil pan etc...I decided it wasn't worth my effort to live at the service department before they decided to change the engine. This is the fifth Saab I've owned and never had trouble like this, only the typical small problems that all seem to cost $300. A trusted friend in the parts department told me there were problems associated with the PCV system which was not being openly acknowledged. I traded the car in for an Acura and will probably never consider a Saab built after 2002 again. Check your oil weekly and take some of the advice on this site with a grain of salt. Some of the comments on this site are coming directly out of Saab Marketing.
