Last question I'm sure and thanks swedecar and chadwick for the help. Assuming the pump has croaked, my car at the moment still runs fine. From what I have read, the pump seems to serve an emissions function so my question is what happens if the pump doesnt work or is inoperable? Seems it only runs during the first minute of cold starting the car, so is it really something that is integral to the longevity of the car? The primary reason I ask is being a recent graduate and entering the booming job market, a grand on a new pump will certainly hurt. Basically, is this something I can not worry about for a month or two or should I address this immediately?
I am going to see if the pump works tomorrow and if so, replace the check valve, shop vac out any water from the pump, and of course pray.
