If it was up to me alone, I could rip that whole system out and never look back but it is something that is mandatory in States that have emission control and if it is not working properly, the car will not pass smog test next time.

It plays a very small role in the whole emission scenario and in 04 and up it was removed from the 9-3.
The 9-5 model only had the SAI system with the V6 engine between 99 and 03.
The NG900 used it in the 4cyl NA and some V6 but not the turbo engines.
