Ian: Yes, finding the cars in the yards is getting more challenging, as cars cycle through the junkyard ecosystems. :-) And yes, that's why I try to first find the cars that have been hit as potential ECM donors. Out here in flyover land, the nearest Saab/Orio authorized shop is 170 miles from me, so I've had to become proficient with my own Tech2 clone and T8 Suite for my own (and friends') needs. Flip side, I've been able to save a few of these cars with bad computers, either for friends or occasionally for fun and a few extra bucks made.
Seth: the ECU is located under the big black plastic cover underhood (three T-30 Torx screws hold the cover down to the engine), on the left hand side of the engine (as you look at it). There's two big electrical connectors going into the top of it, and it's secured by four bolts that have 10mm heads.
