Hi,
There is usually no problem in getting a new key or an existing old key board into a new shell to work.
But you must make sure the car year and frequency is correct. For the 2003-2009 your part number is LTQSAAM433TX (433 MHZ), it MUST be 433MHZ, not 315 MHZ which is also available.
I use http://www.keyecu.com which has both the shell (easy to swap out the internal board from the old key into the new shell (no programming required and easy to do) or a complete new key with battery. Just type in "SAAB" for the keyecu.com site search. The complete new key is approximately $13 with battery. And yes, that is the correct price! It comes with a blank backup mechanical key for the drivers door but your old mechanical key will fit into the shell. For programming I use the Tech2 when I have another working key but I can also read the CIM module for "all keys lost". For programming using a locksmith or a SAAB tech, the board chip type is PCF7946AT. These keys work on all my 2006, 2007, 2008 combi(s), sedans and convertibles. One of my Saabs is a 2008 Combi. Hope it helps...
