I'm sure this has been dealt with on many forums before, but...
Going up a hill at low speed in my 2006 9-3 4-cyl turbo, I had almost no throttle. CEL came on, but at higher revs I was able to get home in a 20mph zone near the house. Got in later, started car, still had CEL. Had it towed to my mechanic (German car specialist, but owner is a Saab freak). They couldn't find the issue. Although they did get two stored error codes:
T8 ECM: P0638-00 throttle mechanical, throttle position deviation from demanded
P1682-00 plausibility fault between voltage feed from+15 and main relay
that's verbatim what they wrote. they cleared the fault memory, restarted the car, and said it ran normally.
they only said that the throttle control unit may be failing.
So the car was running fine for two months and now today it occurred today. Both times it occurred shortly after returning to the car and setting out after having driven it an hour earlier.
I am not a mechanic, so I was just looking online at possible culprits. There was: PCV check valve,
defective ignition coil, throttle position sensor, vacuum leak, fuel filter, etc. Along the way, folks were recommending resetting the ECU. How would that help?
I am not confident that my mechanic will do any better if I take it back to him. Since I have now read that a number of things could be going on, I'd like some advice on my next step. Will a new throttle body fix things? Do I need another mechanic to look at this first? Any thoughts?
