After a lot of calling around, I found a shop here in town that would be willing to replace the ECU, and his concerns were: 1) getting the right part number for my 2006 Saab 9-3 4-cyl automatic, and 2) the programming, which he said could be difficult. He said there is a company up in Canada that his shop deals with for procuring rebuilt ECUs and has even sent them the old ECU to pull the EPROM off of it and soldering it into the rebuilt one so reprogramming was unnecessary.
So, any thoughts on those two concerns of his? He spent quite some time with me on the phone and seems pretty knowledgeable and honest with me about the hurtles he mentioned.
Thanks,
Phil
p.s. this car has only 70K miles on it. I know. I had a short commute and we always used my wife's 9-5 or now her Volvo V60 for trips out of town. I've been retired for 10 years, so it only gets used for errands. I'd rather keep the car going instead of finding a good used car.
