9-5's are still a recommended car by Consurmer Reports, which is pretty amazing to me considering their Japanese bias. There are no Saabs on the Consumer Reports Used Cars to Avoid list.
The latest JD Power Vehicle Dependablity Study has Saab above average and Volvo well, well below average.
General Motors spent megabucks, I heard 700 million plus, on remodeling Trollhattan for 9-5 production in 1998 and introducing the latest in zero defect ISO 9gazillion production methods and equipment. I'm not fond of domestic GM cars, but they're doing quite nicely in depedability and reliability studies lately and that's one of the positive influences of GM on Saab.
