We have one of each- a 2003 Aero (30 k mi) & a 2004 V70 T5 (19 k mi). Both have been trouble-free so far, although reverse gear is getting hard to find on the Volvo. Both are sturdy & squeek-free but the utterly subjective call of build quality & quality of matreials goes to the Saab. Also hard to enumerate is the thoughtfulness of the control lay-out. Saab is the clear winner. (now if only they would find a better feeling control stalk)
Also, even though you didn't ask (& it may not be relevant to the Volvo SUV) the Saab is quicker, faster, & gets better gas milage. Saab brakes are wonderful.
If you don't have cross rocky creeks on a regular basis- why get an SUV?
