Sounds like someone is getting bent over... ...here ya go pay SAAB $3,500 and get a new car. That is not a good deal. There is a paper trail, I assume to be very long, showing the history of problems. Put it like this, remember the finance company does not care if your car runs, they just want insurance on it to cover thier investment and to get thier monthly payment. It is unreasonable to have to pay for non-use when the car is in the shop. The fact is they can take the car back and not lose any money. I submit that SAAB has made more than $3,500 profit on the car when they sold it to the dealer. The dealer won't lose any money, it's not thier product, plus they get their hold back too and what ever they made when they sold the car new. SAAB takes the car back, fixes it, then sends it to the auto auction and some dealer will buy it, again. The car will sell at the auction for the current wholesale value. Bottom line is that there is enough profit built in to each car where the manufacuter won't lose money, they just won't make their usual profit. So what. They, if they have any concern for good will, and don't want you, thier customer, bad-mouthing them should do the right thing. They should apologize, say they are VERY sorry, apologize some more and give you all your money back or a new car with no miles on it. Then all that can be said is that, yes you had too much trouble with your car, but they did make it right and satisfy you, thier customer. The value of a SAAB loyalist can not be underestimated, after all, they sell fewer cars than Ford (cough, cough) sells Tauruses. SAAB's customer base is not large. Think about it, they need repeat business, without that they would sell even fewer cars. SAAB's name isn't that great, the introduction of new models that are thought to be reliable certainly helps.
The SAAB owners and wanna be types use this web site quite a bit. I think owners of cars in this price range and above use web sites to exchange information more than other brands like FORD and Chrysler. I admit the have a lot of people using the internet to exchange infor about thier cars too, but percentage wise it is probably safe to say that they have a small pitance compared to SAAB and other brands.
I see problems listed on here concerning the 9-5 and yeah they put in another ECU blah, blah, blah...
Every person here is probably interested to see what happens with this lemon problem. Since SAAB won't really lose much they should show that are REALLY into customer service and make this as painless as possible and refund or whatever. And whmoever the lawyer or other person trying to be a hero and save SAAB $3,500 is should not fight about it. I think it is worth $3,500 to SAAB to make this quietly go away and keep everybody happy.
Maybe a $100 letter with $50 lawyer speak might convince them of this.
