Depending on where you are, sales tax and local excise tax can be killer on new cars and they still apply to a lease. Two reasons to stick to an older car. Maine excise tax on the Viggen when I leased it new was $900ish for the first year. 5 years later, it's down to the $300 range. My 88 900T is $120, though repairs are more costly for the 88 than the Viggen in the recent past.
I'm usually comparing continued used car repairs to a newer used car. Both will need repairs from time to time, so it's just a matter of what you'd rather be repairing.
