a similar post from you about a year ago broght me back to leasing. I am also a 25k+/yr driver....one of the fortunate/unfortunate ones who actually use their car!
For nearly 40 years, I've attempted nearly every possibility to drive a great car without spending a fortune. Mostly I've bought low mileage quality used cars, added 50-75k, and sold them myself. This worked out to cover the loan balance about 50% of the time...the other 50% really made me feel stupid!
The last 3 years for various reasons, I attempted to use 100+k old Saabs for daily duty. This I really enjoyed, as I am very fond of pre-GM Saabs. However, the numbers ($$$) didn't really make sense...but cost of ownership was reduced. I had 2 of them, as one of them normally needed something. Then both of them got "sick" at the same time twice! I make my living out of the car...got to have one. Then I tried a new low cost/reliable car (Mazda3) with my 9000, and sold the convert. This was only slightly better, and erased the $$$$ savings. The big problem came with Zak, my grandson came to live with me at 3 months...now my "piddle" time is gone...
About that time I read a similar post from Mike and started doing the math...it does make sense. I ended up with an M35 this time...best$$$/car, and am quite happy. A young fellow with lots of time was thrilled to get my '91 9kT, too! Now that the extra mileage cost is reduced to .10, the 9-5 is probably less than the Infiniti...maybe next time!?!
