Sorry to hear that.
Yes to get Saab to honor that warranty can be quite a pain.
You see, it is not enough to just find evidence of 10K oil change intervals, but you need to have evidence of oil changes done every 5K miles with a leeway upwards of 2K miles. So evidence of oil changes every 7K miles from day one is needed.
This is due to the fine print in owners manual saying that cars driven under severe conditions needs to have the oil changed every 5K miles.
Saab has determined that engines with sludge problems has been driven under severe conditions and therefore, the 5K miles oil change applies.
If you get no help from Saab, I would suggest finding an independant Saab shop that either install a good used engine or a new short block.
As for the cylinder head being in need of replacement, I can't say without looking at it, but I wouldn't be surprised if it is enough to just take all the valves out, clean it up and install new valve stem seals. That would save a bundle of money.
I installed a new short block and rebuilt the head on a car and the bill came up to about $6200.00 and that included a new turbo unit too.
Installing a good used engine would be less than that.
