Comment #1) Don't be a cheapskate - just buy the $300 replacement Siren!

I am only half joking. Total time to do this job, including road test and clean-up is two hours. Do not even attempt this repair if you do not have some/substantial experience with circuit board soldering. You will need a 10watt pencil point soldering iron, a solder-sucker, and very fine solder. I borrowed all this from the stuff my son left behind from his Under-Grad days.

I purchased the batteries (Sanyo CR17335SE-FT) from http://www.batterystore.com for $6.60 each. Since two batteries is less than their $15 minimum order quantity you will need to order some other sizes too. I recommend watch batteries or key fob batteries (high value, low weight) so you will pay the minimum shipping charges.

The siren case is glued/sealed shut in addition to the screws so plan on a little finesse when opening it. The batteries are epoxied to the circuit board in addition to being soldered. You will have to cut them loose carefully. After removing the old batteries, clean out the circuit board holes with a very fine drill bit, then glue the new batteries in place befor soldering them. The vertical mounting position of the board requires something to hold the batteries other than just three fine dots of solder. You will also need to seal the case shut after your repair is complete, I used a hair fine bead of black RTV which looked very similar to the factory sealant.

After getting everything back together I took the car for a short test drive, tripped the panic alarm twice, reset it easily both times, then restarted the car. I did not receive a "Service Theft Alarm" message on my dying SID so I "think" my repair was successful.

I received only one such message two weeks ago, but had difficulty resetting the alarm after two nuisance trips this summer. I am keeping my fingers crossed that my soldeirng skills were adequate.
