I have done this repair on my '00 and '01 9-5's. Rather than do the soldering myself, I took the opened unit to Batteries Plus chain store. 29$ -including batteries- later, batteries in, and soldered up. Sealed unit up with silicone, and replaced. Both units functioning normally. Not a difficult job . I also have '02, and when that goes, will attempt to open and do same repair, regardless that unit is not meant to be serviced. Have nothing to lose. By the way, shop measured voltage, and the batteries were at the bottom of their min volts. They are 5 year batteries in cold climes. May last longer in more temperate regions.
