Agressive preemptive maintenance. The thing will keep going, but you have to keep on top of things. Not tolerant of less-than-perfect maintenance. This includes things that you probably never thought of with your Honda like brake fluid, coolant, transmission fluid changes. Check for engine sludge early during your ownership and make sure it stays clean.
Specific things *will* break. Read here to find the common items so you know what the symptoms are and what to do about them. Think seriously about replacing wear items before they leave you stranded somewhere (eg. serpentine belt and pulleys).
If you just want to jump in the car and drive it to work every day without thinking about what's going on under the hood this is not the car for you. If you never think about performance or comfort oriented modifications and personalizations then this is not for you. If you only have a dealer nearby for service ($$$$) and are not DIY-oriented this is not for you either.
These are not "appliances" like a Japanese car. You need to pay attention and develop a relationship with the Saab so that you take care of its needs before it gets angry and sulky.
