I agree with what everyone has said so far. However I would add that you don't need to be DIY oriented to be happy with these cars. I've got an 01 9-5 SE (V6), I've never had it maintained anywhere but the dealer, I'm satisfied with my experience.
The key for me is that I bought an extended warranty from an independent warranty co. to cover anything that breaks. I purchased it in the last month of my Saab warranty to add 4 years of warranty coverage.
You'd have an advantage of still being under warranty. In general if you keep to the Saab maintenance guidelines you'll have a very good if not great experience with these cars. There are only a handful of items to watch out for and their repeated on this board often.
