My brother in law have a 99 Ford Explorer and at 54K the transmission was acting up like no tomorrow (clunking and disengaging in reverse) and I thought for sure it was done for.
He had an extended warranty so he wasn't too worried about it but wanted me to do a complete transmission service with filter and everything so that he could back up the warranty claim, about being serviced, when the tranny went.

He is now over 120K and that damn transmission just won't quit. Now though, his warranty is gone so he is happy as long as it chugs along. No problems with it.
