Hi guys,

I have a 2005 9-5 with almost 29,000 miles on it. After getting my warranty service for a dying battery (thanks for the help and tips to you all!), the dealer told me that I needed to get new pads and rotors, to the tune of $650. They said my pads were down to 4mm. I declined, wanting to do some research here first. It seems that a lot of people are being recommended to do their pads and rotors from 20,000 miles up on these 9-5's. I was thinking about requesting a set of Akebono Ceramics, but a tech who was recommended on this board who I called recommended something like "whisper quiet" or so, saying that it reduces noise and has good brake feel. Does anybody know about those? Also, he said that he was 100% sure that given my mileage and model, I do not need to change the rotors, and that the pads will suffice. What is the take on that? There seems to be some controversy about it here...

Lastly, if anyone has any recommendations for an inexpensive place to do the work at near new york city, I would appreciate it... already called the shops on the list in brooklyn and glen cove and edgewater, NJ. I'm just a student who got this car from my dad, and don't have the time or saavy to do it myself!!
