225/45R17 317.15 mm radius pre 2006 Aeros stock size
235/45R17 321.65 mm 2006-2007 9-5's stock size
215/55R16 321.45 mm pre 2006 Non Aero size
205/60R16 326.2 mm
215/50R17 323.4 mm
I currently run 235/45R17 on 17x7.5 rims (2006 9-5 stock)for summer and run 205/60R16 on 16x6.5 rims for winter with no rubbing. Based on these numbers, 215/50R17 gives margianlly bet overall height and should fit fine. Careful with 7.5" wide rim,the edge of rim is more exposed to curb rash with 215 tire. 235/45R17 I think is best balance. Bear in mind that the tire radius figures given above are nominal values and will vary a bit for different model/make tires. I have found that the manufacturers website will usually have precise tire size specifications. Good luck
