Squirting the fuel straight into the cylinder and over a tumbler device makes for very efficient combustion over the Saab's fuel injection into the intake manifold runners. The Saabs fuel pressure is probably between 3 - 5 bars variable with boost/vac. Direct injection is 120 bars. Basically it is a technical advance that improves power and mpg and will be standard in most cars in a few years.
also Delphi is coming out with direct injection for GM and is supposed to be better than bosch. So new saabs should get it soon enough.
